Small Project Bag

Small Project Bag

I wanted to make a small bag for an upcoming holiday - something fairly compact but useful that I can keep my make up and toiletries in. This was a very nice sewing project that didn't require lots of cutting out or lots of space.

I took 2 fat quarters - one of Tiny Beasts by Tula Pink and the other Fairy Dust by Tula Pink. On the outer fabric I used a quarter metre of fusible fleece - this gives a little extra body to the cotton fabric. Once this was ironed on, I applied some free motion sewing  (Vermecilli) to add a little texture. Although not very noticable on my bag because of the thread match, I often use a contrast so the sewing is visible - why not show it off!

First to go in was the zip. I decided to make a couple of tabs too - one with the addition of a D ring - these were sewn on after I'd sewn in the zip.

Next was sewing the bottom seams - on the outer layer sewn up completely, but on the lining, leaving a large gap so I could get to the side seams. A bit of a tricky process but I've worked out how to sew the bag together with all seams concealed - it does look nice and neat inside. I'm very pleased with the finished result. I will share more pictures of this process - I just need to cut another bag out!

The main pattern measures 38cm (15") across and is 22cm (8 3/4") deep. The pattern will be added to our downloads soon. You also need a 36cm (14") zip.

I'll make an additional 'how to sew' post soon.
