The change in weather is always a good reason to start thinking about some sewing projects for the Summer months. Maybe it’s going to be a new outfit that’s cool and comfortable for everyday wear or something Summery for an upcoming holiday. To give you a few ideas for some easy sewing projects, we’ve made a couple of samples that are now displayed in our shop window .
Many of us have been busy watching the Sewing Bee over the last few months and it’s coming to its final few weeks. Who’s going to be the Sewing Bee finalist this year? We have lots of conversations in the shop about the Sewing Bee and it’s always great to see new sewers being inspired by watching it. We positively encourage it.
Sewing made Simple
We are always wanting to inspire new sewers by having samples made up in the shop. Starting at something really simple, to a more technical make; being able to see and feel different fabrics and how patterns actually look made up really helps when we’re talking about fabric and patterns to our customers. It also helps to showcase some of our lovely fabrics.
We have watched many of our customers growing in confidence as sewers, many of them starting with a simple project and from that point becoming avid makers and pattern hackers. It inspires us too!
Back to our samples, we really love the Tilly and the Buttons patterns and are always happy to recommend them to beginner and improving sewists. The sizing of the patterns are up to date and have great, easy to follow instructions with clear, photographic images to guide and help the sewing process.
Our current samples are the Skye and Lotta dresses, both made up in a lovely, soft, drapey viscose print which is lovely and cool for this time of year.
The Skye is an easy fit, sleeveless dress, with a false tie fastening at the shoulder and essential side seam pockets. Perfect for sunny weather, (but don’t forget your sun cream), or worn with a cardigan on cooler days. We’ve made up the dress in the maxi length but there is an option for a shorter length. Once you’ve made a couple you could can start hacking; a frill to the hem, patch pockets, even a tiered skirt.
The Lotta again is an easy fit dress with a grow-on sleeve, elasticated waist and two options of skirt lengths. This I found to be a slightly easier make than the Skye. It came together really quickly, and is so easy to wear. A great style for every day.
We hope you enjoy seeing our samples, we’re working on a few more as I write this. We look forward to seeing you in the shop where you can see the the samples and have a look at some of our lovely Summery fabrics. Alternatively, if you’re unable to get to the shop, have a browse in our online store.
Happy Sewing everyone.
